The Service

Prep Perfect is a very simple meal delivery service. They deliver pre-cooked meals and customers can choose from four different packages; weight loss, maintenance, muscle gain and low carb. Once you select a package, you are then able to choose your meals within this. We did think that the calorie range of meals for each package was wide and it was difficult to put together a calorie controlled plan. Each time you choose a meal, you must click into it to see the calories and macros, which made comparing difficult. However, it is nice to have a choice of meals and could be a great service for picky-eaters who are happy to spend a bit of time putting their meal plans together themselves.

You are able to choose from meat, fish and vegetable meals or vegetable and fish only. There is currently no option for vegan meals on their website, however their FAQ’s do mention to contact directly for more options.

Compared to a number of other services, Prep Perfect is relatively low cost. It is £46 for 10 meals on the weight loss package, bringing the total meal cost for one to £4.60.

They deliver on specific days to different areas. We are London-based and had the option of 7am – 1pm, Tuesday to Saturday. As we were not available at home over these times, the delivery company were able to leave the package in a safe spot in front of our building.

The Taste

The food is delivered freshly prepared and will last for 3 days from delivery, or 8 weeks in the freezer. There is a wide-selection of options to choose from, and we expect there would be something to suit all tastes. Each of the meals can be heated hot or cold, definitely a positive for those who have few cooking facilities at their work.

We found that some of the meals were quite tasty however not ‘perfect’ as stated in the name. The garlic butter chicken dish was dry and under-seasoned while the vegetables in the teriyaki salmon stir-fry were way over cooked.

Health

Generally, the meals are really well balanced in terms of macro-nutrients and there is a decent amount of veg for each portion. The meals are low in saturated fats and sugars. The range of calories, from 200kcals to 800kcals, are a plus as it allows everybody to find something to match their calorie budget.

Sustainability

Sadly, we aren’t so sure we can give this company a high score in their eco-friendly credentials. We could find very little to tell us about the sustainability of the company on their website. The plastics the meals were delivered in did not seem to be recyclable, and therefore we expect this contributes to a lot of plastic going into the general rubbish. We would love to hear more about how Prep Perfect are contributing to a healthier planet.

Final Verdict

Overall, for the low cost, this service provides conveniently prepped fresh meals. From previous reviews on trust pilot we can see it has helped customers lose weight which is a great sign. Nonetheless, we aren’t completely convinced by the quality of the food or the cooking, so perhaps one for the foodies to steer clear of. Also, we found very little information on their commitment to sustainability, certainly a business feature we are very aware of in this current environment.
